Bentley's Bike Ride

We're so proud to partner with Bentley Currell, who at only 12 years old is currently in training to take off on his push bike and ride from Camperdown to Mildura to raise money for the Brain Cancer Foundation. Amazing!
Last week, our Bec had the privilege of catching up with Bentley for an interview.
Bec: Bentley, we think you’re amazing! Lots of people decide to donate to charity, but what on earth made you so passionate about helping the Brain Cancer Foundation that you decided to ride your bike all the way from Camperdown to Mildura?!
Bentley: Our school receptionist Amy Stephenson lost her son Lachie to brain cancer at a young age of 19 which inspired me to push myself to do something that was well out of my comfort zone. Being able to raise awareness and money for such an amazing foundation will help push me each day through the ride.
Bec: 550kms is a long way! Who is on your support crew (and do you think they’ll be able to keep up?!)
Bentley: For the ride itself it’ll just be myself and my Dad (Gus) who will be following me (always has my back) and we will complete it on our mountain bikes. My Pop (Dennis) will follow us with his ute and caravan as our support vehicle/team for all our food, drinks and refreshments along the way and then we can also use the caravan to sleep in in between our ride days if needed. I hope Dad will be able to keep up otherwise I’ll have to leave him at Mildura- lol! 😂
Bec: Haha! Yes leave Dad in Mildura, or maybe even call an ambulance to help him?
Bentley: being a paramedic, Dad would find that very embarrassing! 😂
Bec: I bet he would! You’ve estimated it’ll take you 11 days to complete the journey. Tell us what songs you’re gonna be listening to when you’re needing a bit of pumping up?
Bentley: Hmmm that’s a hard one🤔 Dad and I have a road trip playlist on Spotify that we listen to when we are away which has music from the 70’s through to now, but definitely some pump up music to keep us pushing hard. 😁
Bec: Sounds like a good playlist! And you won an Australia Day award last month! Tell us about that!
Bentley: Yes I did thank you and it was a huge honour to be nominated and know that people notice the importance of working hard to try and make a difference. There was a ceremony in Camperdown last weekend and I had to get up on stage and collect my award and that was very exciting but nervous at the same time. Plus there were a lot of other deserving people that got awards as well. Camperdown’s bronze medalist Penny Smith was there and she kindly donated a signed Tshirt for us to raffle off to raise more money, which is amazing. 😁
