How long does it take?

Usually about three to four weeks. We all have different assets and family circumstances, so it can vary depending on the urgency and complexity

Who's Involved?

·  You

·  Your lawyer and a representative from our wills team

·  Sometimes we will ask your accountant or your financial advisor for some information too

What's the process?

Initial steps

Our team will collect some basic information from you before your appointment (middle names, dates of birth, contact details) so that when you meet with your lawyer we can jump straight into a great conversation.

During your first meeting, your lawyer will get to know you. We will chat about your family, your assets and your wishes in detail to make sure we can get the details we need to make a will tailored to you. This meeting usually takes 30 minutes to an hour.

What happens next?

After your first meeting, we will obtain any extra details we might need (for example, a title search of your property, a copy of a trust deed from your accountant or your death benefit nominations for your super from your financial advisor). We will draft up your will carefully based on our meeting.

Signing your will

At our second meeting, your lawyer will carefully go over your will, work through any changes you might like to make, and if you are happy we will sign and witness your will. There are special signing rules to follow which your lawyer will coordinate.

Once your will is signed we will store the original on your behalf and send you a copy for your records.

What to have in order

  • A copy of your most recent will (if you have one that you've made elsewhere previously).
  • Full names of your immediate family members.
  • Full names of any other people that you think would be a good fit as your executor/s and your guardian (if you have young children).
  • Details about your super and any life insurance policies (if you have them somewhere handy).
